Dulce and Francisco Gonzalez, parents of two, made their marriage official after more than 10 years together last Friday, according to KSDK-TV. More than 50 family members were in attendance for the reception, which was held in the Gonzalez’s backyard.
Late in the evening, two armed men broke into the courtyard. Wearing ski masks to hide their identities, they ordered people there not to move, said Yaribeth Peña, the bride’s sister.
She added that one man was searching the pockets of the guests, while the other individual stood behind the groom. After a few moments, he fired at least one bullet at Mr. Gonzalez’s head. Both suspects eventually fled afterward.
At the time of writing, the victim is in critical condition.
“He’s fighting for his life,” Peña told KSDK-TV. “We hope he’s going to make it. (My sister) is distraught, she’s depressed, she’s heartbroken.”
The two suspects have not yet been arrested by local authorities. The bride’s sister also told the outlet that she fears for her safety: “I feel like we should move out so we can feel more comfortable.”
She asked the neighborhood community to help her family find the two individuals. The young woman believes they are teenagers.
The case is still ongoing.
