A sheriff shot and killed a judge at a courthouse in Kentucky, United States, on Thursday afternoon.

Kentucky State Police were called to the Letcher County Courthouse for reports of shots fired inside the building.

When emergency responders arrived, they found District Judge Kevin Mullins, 54, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to a state police Facebook post.

Resuscitation procedures were carried out, but he was pronounced dead on the scene.

Letcher County Sheriff Shawn M. Stines, 43, was arrested and charged with murder.

He allegedly shot the judge after an argument, state police said.

Shawn M. Stines reportedly turned himself in to authorities, according to CNN.
