A 27-year-old Texan woman pleaded guilty to driving while impaired by alcohol after smashing through a traffic safety sign during a drunken night out in California.

Clarissa Hamendez had more than one drink in her nose when she got behind the wheel of her Land Rover in Palm Spring before crashing head-on into an illuminated “Don’t Drink & Drive” electrical sign.

The situation could have taken a dramatic turn, since the driver of the vehicle narrowly avoided mowing down a group of pedestrians, according to what the “New York Post” reported on Wednesday.

Police officers who were at a checkpoint nearby quickly responded to the scene of the accident to find the woman behind the wheel completely drunk, almost unable to stand, according to the New York tabloid.

“Her eyes were bloodshot, red and watery, and she had difficulty speaking,” police said in a document, adding that the young woman “was continually rocking back and forth.”

Questioned about her alcohol consumption, Ms. Hernandez, who allegedly admitted to having drunk tequila barely 10 minutes before crashing into the panel, was sentenced to 3 years of probation, it was added.
