A 40-year-old Nebraska woman was arrested after leaving her 3-month-old baby alone in the car to go horseback riding at a county fair on a hot day.
Cara Dugan was arrested at the Merrick County Fairgrounds on Saturday where it was over 90 degrees, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office, cited by the New York Post.
The 40-year-old was found riding a horse inside a building, leaving her baby alone in the van with the engine turned off and a window partially open.
Hearing the cries of a child, the organizers called over loudspeakers to find the baby, which allowed a fairgoer to locate him in a van.
The child was taken to the hospital and placed in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, the New York tabloid reported.
Last week in Texas, a 9-month-old baby died after being left in his grandmother’s car for eight hours, bringing the death toll to 25 this year.
