An outraged mother, accused of letting her daughter starve to death during a beach vacation, justified her child’s death by refusing to eat, according to a disturbing video captured by a police officer’s body camera.
Kristel Candelario, 32, who was sentenced to life in prison Monday, lied to police that she was with her daughter Jailyn last June while on a trip to Detroit and Puerto Rico while her daughter was alone at home.
The woman had a cold demeanor as she accused her child of starving herself.
“She drank milk without eating anything. Maybe it’s because she hasn’t eaten anything for two days,” explains M.me Candelario in the video. The latter expresses herself by shrugging her shoulders.
“It was really scary. I said to myself: Oh, my God, we have to go to the hospital, because she’s not eating anything,” she continues.

The woman then said that her daughter slept 12 hours a day and never woke up on the morning of June 16, 2023.
One of the police officers interrupted the mother by asking her what had happened the evening before the tragedy. The latter continued her series of lies by claiming that she heard her daughter screaming while she was in the shower.
“I don’t know, she looked like she was in pain. I took it this morning and it was all dry,” she says.
During sentencing, the judge overseeing the case claimed that Candelario had committed “the ultimate betrayal” by allowing his daughter to starve to death.
“Since you locked up Jailyn until she died, you also deserve to spend the rest of your life in prison,” the magistrate continued. The only difference is that you will be allowed to eat and drink.”
Kristel Candelario left her daughter alone in her Cleveland home in order to travel alone. No one knows why the young mother did not ask someone to watch over the child while she was away.
When she returned after 10 days, she found little Jailyn emaciated and unconscious in her playpen. The child was lying on a pile of blankets soiled with his urine and feces.
The autopsy revealed that Jailyn died of starvation and severe dehydration.
The mother pleaded guilty to neglect and aggravated murder last month. The latter justified her actions by her depression and other mental health problems. She admitted Monday that she prays every day for forgiveness.
“I am hurt by everything that happened. I’m not trying to justify my actions, but no one knows how I was suffering,” she said.
