A woman allegedly killed her friend’s newborn twin and abused the other in Pennsylvania, USA.

Ethan Katz and Savannah Roberts were at a Pittsburgh hospital caring for their child Ari, who had a genital injury.

Her longtime friend, Nicole Elizabeth Virzi, had come from San Diego to visit and babysat the other baby, Leon, while the parents were away from the apartment.

Later, the parents received a call from the 30-year-old woman who explained that Leon had fallen out of his crib.

The child was pronounced dead at dawn on June 16, CNN reported Wednesday.

The tests revealed that Leon’s injury was more consistent with child abuse.

Days later, Ms. Virzi was charged with manslaughter, wounding and child endangerment.

Additionally, prosecutors claim she caused the injuries to the other twin, Ari, and that Leon’s injuries were not “natural or accidental,” according to the criminal complaint.

Death penalty requested

The clinical psychology doctoral student pleaded not guilty and is currently being held, her lawyer David Shrager told the American media.

Last week, prosecutors filed a notice seeking the death penalty against him.

Pennsylvania law allows prosecutors to seek the death penalty, but the state has not carried out an execution since 1999.
