The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) said that the tanker Amjad, owned by it, was sailing in the Red Sea on Monday near another tanker that was attacked, but it was not targeted and did not suffer any damage or injuries.
“We confirm unequivocally that Amjad was not targeted and did not sustain any injuries or damage. The ship is still operating at full capacity and heading to its planned destination without interruption,” the company said in a statement on Tuesday.
“Bahri has immediately notified all relevant authorities and is in constant contact with our crew, and we are closely monitoring the situation,” she added.
Reuters reported earlier that the Houthis attacked two oil tankers on Monday morning: the first, the Panama-flagged Blue Lagoon Eye, and the second, the Saudi Amjad, explaining that the attack was carried out with two ballistic missiles and a suicide drone.
On Monday evening, the Yemeni Houthi group claimed responsibility for targeting the Blue Lagoon Eye ship with missiles and drones, but did not mention anything about the Saudi tanker.
In “solidarity with Gaza”, which is facing a devastating Israeli war with American support, the Houthis are targeting Israeli or Israeli-linked cargo ships in the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean with missiles and drones.
Since the beginning of this year, a US-led coalition has been launching raids that it says target Houthi sites in various parts of Yemen, in response to their naval attacks, which have been met with a response from the group from time to time.
The Houthis launched more than 70 attacks, sinking two ships, seizing one, and killing at least three sailors.
