On Tuesday, the Royal Jordanian Airlines resumed its direct commercial flights between Amman and the city of Aleppo in northern Syria, about 14 years after it stopped, at 3 flights per week, according to the official Jordanian News Agency (Petra).

Aleppo International Airport has resumed flights for the first time since the Assad regime fell on March 18.

During the war years, the Aleppo International Airport was exposed to dozens of Israeli strikes, causing it to be removed from service several times.

The Jordanian Agency said that he “accompanied the first trip that landed at Aleppo International Airport today, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jordanian Royal, Samer Al -Majali and a delegation from the concerned.”

Relationship development

Al -Majali quoted Al -Majali as saying that “the addition of Aleppo and Damascus to the network of lines will enhance the presence of ownership in the region, and will contribute to the reconstruction of Syria, the development of economic relations and the growth of trade exchange between the two countries, and it serves different groups of travelers, and providing the air link to the Syrian market with the countries of the world, especially with the return of daily flights to Damascus at the beginning of the current year.”

The Royal Jordanian, which is conducting flights to more than 45 destinations in Europe, America, the Middle East and the Gulf, was the first international airline to land at Aleppo International Airport through a trial flight on March 23.

Trips

The Royal Jordanian will operate its flights on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, with flights start from Amman at 05,15 (02,15 GMT), to take off from Aleppo at 07,45 (04,45 GMT).

The monarchy had resumed its commercial flights to Damascus on January 31, with 4 trips per week, to increase to 7.

International flights at Damascus Airport resumed on January 7, and during the last period the airport was receiving planes transporting international aid or carrying foreign officials.

On December 18, the first plane took off since Bashar al -Assad’s fall from Damascus airport heading to the city of Aleppo in northern Syria.

Recently, several airlines have resumed their flights to the Syrian city of Aleppo after a hiatus of years due to the security situation, and among the most prominent of these companies:

  • Turkish Airlines announced the resumption of its flights to Aleppo starting from March 18, 2025, after a long break due to the war in Syria, where flights start from Istanbul Airport, in a move aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries and facilitating mobility between cities.
  • Qatar Airways announced the resumption of its flights to Damascus from January 7, 2025, at a rate of 3 flights per week, and this decision is an important step in re -linking the area, and providing a smooth access to travelers to the wide Qatar Airways network.

These steps show a relatively improvement in the security and logistical situation in Syria, and contribute to strengthening economic and tourism ties with neighboring countries.
