Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s decision to suspend his presidential campaign on Friday before rallying behind Republican candidate Donald Trump has been criticized by several members of his family.
In response to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s announcement, his siblings issued a statement.
According to CNN, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Courtney Kennedy, Kerry Kennedy, Chris Kennedy and Rory Kennedy said their brother’s decision marked “a sad end to a sad story.”
“We want an America filled with hope and united by a shared vision of a better future, a future defined by individual freedom, economic promise and national pride,” they said in the statement. “We believe in (Kamala) Harris and (Tim) Walz. Our brother Bobby’s decision to support Trump (Friday) is a betrayal of the values our father and our family hold dearest. It is a sad end to a sad story.”
The man who was an independent candidate is nevertheless an heir to the famous Democratic political dynasty.
Let us recall that he has the same first name as his father, assassinated while he was the favorite to represent the Democratic Party in 1968, and that his uncle is the former Democratic president John F. Kennedy Jr., who had been killed five years earlier.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. therefore leaves plenty of room for a duel between Democrat Kamala Harris and her opponent Donald Trump in the final race towards the American presidential election on November 5.
