A septuagenarian from California, apparently enraged by the blocking of the road for a Christmas parade, was arrested Thursday evening after violently hitting three men who were waiting for the festive carts to pass.
“We got up and grabbed the kids to run. Seeing bodies flying (in shock)… it was crazy,” said a witness to the scene, Zach Duncan, in an interview with CBS News.
Around 5:30 p.m., while many families were feverishly waiting for the Bakersfield Christmas parade to pass, the driver of a white pickup truck, a 72-year-old man, lost patience with the blocked roads, according to the American media.
It was then that the septuagenarian decided to weigh on the fungus by reversing his vehicle, before veering into an alley while driving quickly towards the street, hitting several vehicles and three men aged 21, 42 and 77 in the process, according to the “New YorkPost.”
The enraged driver was reportedly arrested at the scene, where many police officers were already present as they took part in the festivities. The three men were rushed to hospital, where they are said to be in stable condition.
“The cars can be replaced, but the people who were hit, they cannot be replaced,” lamented Misty Cole, whose vehicle was damaged by the passage of the septuagenarian, to CBS News.
An investigation was opened to try to shed light on the events, but it cannot be ruled out that alcohol could be involved, according to the “NY Post”.
The parade was ultimately delayed slightly, before taking place as planned on an alternative route.
