An American family ended up in the emergency room on Saturday after using the “Easy Bake” children’s miniature oven, which likely caused carbon monoxide poisoning.

The mother recounted her hospital adventure in a Tik Tok video, which received more than 9 million views in two days.

In her video, Stephanie Murphy says that she, her 8-year-old daughter, and her husband experienced difficulty breathing and nausea after plugging in the mini oven, without even eating what they had cooked.

During the very first use of the object, the little girl immediately reacted to the smell produced by the connected product. Her dad, whose sense of taste and smell had disappeared since a previous COVID-19 infection, assumed the smell came from plastic, the young woman said.

My husband, 8 year old daughter and myself all got admitted to the ER on Saturday because of an Easy Bake Oven. Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, chills, and nausea. Nothing on Google showed anything similar, so was this a one off or have there been others? It was scary that we all got affected so quickly.

As the smell quickly disappeared, the child and his father left the cake to cook while waiting in the living room, detailed the mother.

After 20 minutes of waiting and without the expected results, the budding cooks decided to abandon the cooking and the toy.

The first symptoms appeared less than an hour later, when the little girl complained of difficulty breathing and abdominal pain.

“I checked his oxygen level, it was 89 which is very low, we went straight to the emergency room,” she continued. On their way, the father began to have difficulty breathing, as did the mother a little later.

Doctors ultimately hypothesized carbon monoxide poisoning, since all the symptoms occurred within an hour, causing, among other things, pain, nausea and difficulty breathing.

“Hasbro takes the safety of all of its products very seriously. “Hasbro’s Easy Bake oven meets or exceeds safety standards,” a company spokesperson told the New York Post.

After a transfer to another hospital, treatment and medication, the little family was finally able to return home the next day. All air tests done in the house while they were gone had come back negative.
