Donald Trump emerged winner of the Republican primary in New Hampshire this Tuesday evening, with a slim lead over his rival Nikki Haley.

This gain for the great favorite of the American right clears the way towards the nomination of the Republican Party for the presidential election in November against Joe Biden.
“The results are pretty much what we expected. It’s a victory that is not brilliant for Trump,” commented Pierre Martin, professor of political science at the University of Montreal and columnist for Newspaper.

According to American media projections, the former President of the United States won the vote in New Hampshire, ahead of his 52-year-old former ambassador to the United Nations. At press time, he held a lead of more than 12% of the vote.

If she congratulated Mr. Trump on his victory in this small northeastern state where she has many supporters, Mr.me Haley asserted that “the race (was) far from over” and that many Americans did not want “a second fight between Trump and Biden.”

Since his defeat in November 2020, which he never admitted to President Biden, the 77-year-old billionaire at the heart of four criminal trials this year is determined to take his revenge this fall on his Democratic rival.

In his acceptance speech Tuesday evening, the former American president reminded the crowd of his 2016 victory, highlighting in passing the 2020 results.
To face the outgoing president on November 5, he will have to be invested this summer by his party’s convention, at the end of all the primaries in the states against his only competitor still in the running.
Mme Haley does not intend to give up and reaffirmed Tuesday that “it has always been a marathon and never a sprint”.
Strong participation
The New Hampshire primary, where the last polling stations closed at 8 p.m., saw “very strong participation,” according to local authorities.
Last week, Mr. Trump won the first primary in Iowa and strongly encouraged voters to come out and vote.
His rival, Ron DeSantis, also withdrew from the race last weekend.
President Biden, meanwhile, handily won the New Hampshire Democratic primary, even though he was not on the ballot due to a disagreement with the local branch.

Furthermore, Mr. Trump has almost sealed his nomination for the presidential election, estimated the campaign team of his Democratic rival.
“The results (from Tuesday) evening confirm that Donald Trump has almost locked the nomination by the Republican Party,” said Julie Chavez Rodriguez, the director of the team, in a press release.
