The jurors have been chosen. The witnesses are ready. Donald Trump is unleashed. We can never say it enough: this trial which will truly begin on Monday will offer something never seen before and never heard of.
On one level, at least, Donald Trump is consistent. His election to the presidency in 2016 was amid confusion, and the four years of his presidency were spent in constant chaos.
Complete pandemonium surrounded his departure from the White House. And today, he is ensuring that his trial for mismanaged infidelity is swept away in a maelstrom of falsehoods, threats and vulgarities.
IT’S STRONGER THAN HIM
Take his comments entering and leaving the courtroom throughout the week; this guy obviously gets up on his left foot every morning. This was the case yesterday, among others.
“So, thank you very much. I’ve been saying it for a long time, it’s a rigged trial. It’s coming from the White House.” Trump had barely greeted the journalists waiting for him at the court doors before he accused President Biden of pulling the strings of this trial. He has no evidence; no one but him puts forward such whims, especially not his lawyers.
“They have people from the Justice Department in the DA’s office because he’s probably not smart enough to represent himself.” Nothing like insulting the prosecutor leading the case to enhance the value of his defense.
BE FORCED TO SHUT UP
“You have a very biased judge. It’s a disaster. The judge has a conflict, the worst I have ever seen.” An interesting tactic, too, to publicly denigrate the judge at his trial.
These attacks and many others earned Trump a gag order, an order to remain silent that prohibits him from attacking witnesses, prosecutors, jurors and court staff, their relatives and the judge’s family .
It drives him crazy. “I have many things to tell you and I have no right to say them. They can continue to make up lies and everything else. They’re lying, they’re real rubbish.” A risky statement, coming from a man who, according to a count of the Washington Posthas accumulated more than 30,000 false or misleading allegations in four years of presidency.
LET THE PARADE OF WITNESSES BEGIN
In the game of “rude character”, Donald Trump will have competition in the coming weeks. Not only does he deny having paid to buy Stormy Daniels’ silence, but he swears he never met her.
The “porn star” is ready to unpack everything: the size of his penis, the condom he wasn’t wearing and the fact that it was “the least impressive sex I’ve ever had” . It’s going to make quite a presidential campaign ad!
