Among the rallying points were the entrances to Columbia University, the epicenter of the pro-Palestinian protests on American campuses, before the demonstrators crossed Manhattan to get as close as possible to the famous 5th Avenue where the museum which hosted this evening stands. at the crossroads of fashion, popular culture and philanthropy.
The number of people arrested was not precise at the time when the stars walked the carpet and posed for photographers.
The AFP was, however, able to confirm several arrests while the New York Daily News counted around ten, out of the hundreds of people who had gathered near the Metropolitan Museum.
Organizers had published a leaflet on the social network X for an event called “City-Wide Day of Rage for Gaza.”
Monday’s rally does not appear to be linked to the protests that rocked the Columbia University campus, leading the institution to cancel its major graduation ceremony on Monday after three weeks of anger condemned by Joe Biden and repressed by the police .
