Columbia University in New York, the epicenter of the protest movement against the war in the Gaza Strip, announced Monday that it was “foregoing” its major graduation ceremony on May 15 in favor of events of “more Small scale”.

The establishment, where activists and students were evicted on April 30 by the New York police, indicated in a press release that it was canceling “the university’s major ceremony scheduled for May 15.”

“All school ceremonies scheduled on the south lawn of the Morningside campus will be moved” from this district of northern Manhattan to a sports complex of this huge prestigious university, according to a press release.

Columbia, shaken for two weeks by a demonstration and occupation of premises by non-violent pro-Palestinian activities and students before they were dislodged by the police, said it favored “smaller scale” ceremonies. taking place from May 10 to 16 in New York.

“Our students emphasized that these smaller-scale ceremonies were the most important to them and their families,” Columbia leadership insisted.
