Like many stories of extended pain in the Gaza Strip due to the Israeli aggression, it was the story of the infant Princess Aisha, who was born 17 days ago amidst the destruction in a hospital without electricity in the south of the Gaza Strip.

Princess Aisha and her brother Ahmed were martyred in an occupation raid on their home in the city of Rafah yesterday, Tuesday.

Her grandmother, Suzanne Zorob, who survived the raid, said that her family was sleeping when the raid leveled their residential building in Rafah before dawn. 27 Palestinians were martyred in the raid, including 13 martyrs from the Zorob family, including Princess Aisha and her two-year-old brother, Ahmed.

“She is only two weeks old and her name has not even been recorded,” her grandmother said, her voice trembling as she spoke from her son’s hospital bedside, who was also injured in the explosion.

Princess Aisha and Ahmed’s parents survived, as their mother, Malak, suffered burns and bruises on her face, while their father, Mahmoud, suffered a broken pelvis. While Mahmoud was lying on his bed in the Kuwaiti Hospital in Rafah, Susan brought him his two children for a final farewell before burying them.

Mahmoud was in great pain as he pulled himself to Ahmed’s cradle, wrapped in a white shroud, before falling back and crying. His wife was carrying Princess Aisha.

Dozens of mourners performed funeral prayers – yesterday morning, Tuesday – outside the hospital in Rafah, before transporting Princess Aisha, Ahmed and others who were martyred in the raid to be buried in a nearby cemetery.
