Passenger car sales in China rose 8.3% last December, supported by a price war between manufacturing companies, despite a decline from a sharp rise recorded last November.

The China Passenger Car Association said on Tuesday that sales reached 2.37 million vehicles last December.

Sales for the full year of 2023 increased 5.3% to 21.93 million cars.

In terms of world markets, Asian websites quoted the Chinese Association of Automotive Industry (CAAM) as saying that China exported 4.41 million cars between January and November 2023, a huge increase over last year.

Earlier, Wang Xia, Chairman of the Automotive Sub-Sector Council of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, said that China will become the world’s largest automobile exporter this year.

“In 2001, the export value of the Chinese auto industry chain was only $1.56 billion, with a global share of only 0.65%. In the first eight months of 2023, this figure approached $122 billion, accounting for 5.5% of the global total,” Wang said. .

China aims to sell about 20% of the world’s electric or hybrid cars in 2025, and is looking forward to a strong presence in Europe to compete with major European companies.
