“We are working with response teams and city officials on an outage in San Francisco affecting approximately 130,000 customers,” Pacific Gas & Electric Company said in a statement on X.
The municipality asked residents to stay at home, with some traffic lights not working and public transport disrupted.
“It’s going to rain, it’s dark. If you don’t need to go out, stay home,” Mayor Daniel Lurie said from the city’s emergency operations center in a video posted on X.
He said traffic police had been deployed to compensate for the absence of lights.
The outage was caused by a fire in an electrical substation, added Mr. Lurie, who said he could not say when power would be restored.
