The Department of Defense clarified in a press release that the end of this cooperation – which includes military training and scholarships – would apply from the 2026-2027 academic year.
The military will be able to complete the training already started within the dean of American universities.
“For too long, this department has sent our best and brightest officers to Harvard in the hope that the university would better understand and appreciate our warrior class,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was quoted as saying in the statement.
“Instead, too many of our officers came away looking too much like Harvard, their heads full of globalist and radical ideologies,” he added.
Donald Trump accuses Harvard and other American universities of promoting a so-called “woke” ideology which promotes a strong sensitivity to injustices linked to racism, sexism and other forms of discrimination, and of not sufficiently protecting Jewish students during pro-Palestinian demonstrations.
His administration has filed legal complaints and demanded exorbitant compensation against dozens of universities – at least 75 according to a recent investigation by the New York Times.
He announced Monday that he was demanding a billion dollars in damages from Harvard, assuring that his government wanted “no more dealings in the future” with the university based near Boston.
