The Ministry of Foreign Trade in France condemned an “American intervention” that it considered “unacceptable”, after the American embassy in Paris sent a message to several French companies asking it whether it is adopting internal programs to combat discrimination.
The ministry said in a statement that “the American interference in the integration policies in French companies, such as the threat of imposing unjustified customs duties, is unacceptable.”
The ministry stressed that “France and Europe will defend their work and consumers, but also their values.”
Several French companies have received a message from the American embassy asking about the existence of internal programs to combat discrimination, which may prevent them from working with the American government.

Resolution 14173
The letter informed these companies that “Resolution 14173” issued by US President Donald Trump on the first day of his new mandate in the White House to end the enhanced programs to equal opportunities within the federal government, “also applies to all suppliers and service providers to the American government,” according to a document revealed by the French daily “Le Vigaro” on Friday.
Commercially contracting companies with the US government will be obligated to abandon the positive discrimination policies that may have adopted them.
“This practice reflects the values of the new US government,” said close to French Economy Minister Eric Lombard on Friday.
They added in the response of his sending to the press: “It is not” our values, explaining that “the minister will remind his counterparts in the American government to do so.”
