Palestinian Minister of Health Mai Al-Kaila called on United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to intervene to protect medical teams in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank in light of the ongoing Israeli occupation aggression since last October 7.
This came in an urgent message that Al-Kaila delivered to the United Nations office in Ramallah in order to deliver it to Guterres. The message included testimonies of attacks on medical teams and hospitals by the occupation forces.
Al-Kaila said that 340 doctors and health sector workers were martyred as a result of the ongoing occupation aggression against the Gaza Strip for more than 4 months, and about 900 were injured with various injuries, while the occupation authorities continue to arrest 100 members.
She stressed that “health teams are exposed to serious violations in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank,” and described what the occupation forces recently carried out at Ibn Sina Hospital in Jenin as a “serious violation” in which a patient and two of his companions were killed.
She considered that “these cruel and illegal practices constitute clear violations of many provisions of international humanitarian law,” pointing out that the occupation’s violations against the health sector are increasing despite the decision of the International Court of Justice regarding the war on Gaza.
It called for providing protection to the Palestinian health sector, and holding the Israeli occupation accountable for its crimes and violations.
