A Burmese python that is over 13 feet long and still growing was seized from a New York resident who was at a loss for how to care for the snake, which is illegal to own in the state.

It was quite a discovery that Jeff Hull, a New York Environmental Conservation Officer, made on August 28, when he was called to intervene following a complaint from a person.

“Upon entering the home, Officer Hull discovered the 13-foot (and growing) snake confined in a 4- to 5-foot tank,” the organization said in a Facebook post Wednesday.

The Burmese python, recognizable by the arrowhead-shaped design on its head, was healthy and weighed 80 pounds.

His owner admitted that “he was not prepared for how quickly the animal would grow and that he recognized that he could no longer care for him.”

The snake was seized and taken to Fort Rickey Discovery Zoo, which has the necessary permits to care for it.

The reptile owner was issued with tickets for possessing wild animals as pets and for possessing dangerous wild animals without a permit.
