A 21-year-old Mexican man lost his life an hour after his baptism in Texas while trying to save a teenage girl in a lake, according to the American media “WFAA”.
In a Facebook post, the Waxahachie Police Department said the incident occurred around 12:45 p.m. at Boat Dock Park, just over 30 miles south of Dallas.
“Officers learned that a 21-year-old man, (Lincer Lopez), drowned while attempting to rescue a teenage girl in distress,” the police department said. “The girl, who was part of a church group in Garland, Texas, was pulled from the water by a boater.”
Resuscitation maneuvers then allowed her to be saved, according to the authorities.
Lincer Lopez’s uncle, Jacob Lopez, paid tribute to him in a Spanish-language interview with “WFAA.” He mentioned that his nephew was eagerly awaiting his baptism.
“He was a hero,” Jacob Lopez said. “He didn’t hesitate to save someone else. He didn’t think about the risk of dying and he risked his life to save the girl.”
