(Washington) Donald Trump and Elon Musk rekindled their quarrel on Tuesday, the American president threatening to expel the tech magnate and deprive his public subsidy companies after the latter again attacked his flagship budgetary law.
The richest man in the world had very generously funded Donald Trump’s campaign in the last presidential election, and had become one of his closest allies in the first months of the new mandate of the republican billionaire at the White House.
But the boss of SpaceX and Tesla now threatens to return his immense fortune against the American president by launching a new party to put in difficulty the Republican elected officials who supported the “great and beautiful law” of Donald Trump, narrowly adopted by the Senate on Tuesday.
The interested party was quick to react greenly.
As a journalist asked him if he planned to expel his former ally, who has been born in South Africa and has had American nationality since 2002, Donald Trump said he was going to “examine” this option.
In response to a publication on his social network X taking over these words from Trump, Musk replied: “So tempting to get the situation. So much, so tempting. But I’m going to abstain for the moment. »»
The republican billionaire also said that the government -efficiency commission (DOGE), which Musk directed until the end of May, could tackle public subsidies allocated to the latter’s companies.
“We could put Doge on Elon. Do you know what DOGE is? Doge is the monster that could turn around and crunch Elon, “threatened the American president.
“Very angry”
The 79 -year -old republican also suggested that Elon Musk was attacking his budget bill because he was upset by the abolition of electric vehicle support measures (VE).
“He is losing his subsidies for the VE. He is very angry, but you know, he could lose much more than that, I can tell you right away. Elon could lose much more than that, “he said.
He had made similar remarks on Monday evening on his Truth Social network, saying that “without subsidies, Elon should probably close shop and return home to South Africa”.
“No more rocket, satellite or electric cars’ launches and our country would save a fortune,” added the White House tenant.
As a result of this new weapon pass, Tesla has greatly fell back at the opening of Wall Street on Tuesday.
“Slavery by debt”
Donald Trump and Elon Musk experienced an idyll as brief as it is intense after the return to power of the first in January.
Elon Musk had succeeded in imposing his almost constant presence alongside the president, which he had described as “king” on the day of his inauguration.
In return, the latter had defended his ally in the face of criticism, going so far as to organize an operation to promote Tesla vehicles at the White House.
But their relationship exploded in full flight in May when Musk criticized the president’s budget bill before leaving the government.
After having made a low profile in recent weeks, the billionaire has returned to the charge in recent days, while the text has been making their way to the congress.
In a series of publications on his social network X, he denounced the impact of the project on public debt.
“All I ask is that we are not driving America to bankruptcy,” he wrote on Tuesday on X, accusing the Republicans of supporting “slavery by debt”.
The richest man on the planet has also warned: if the “One Big Beautiful Bill” is promulgated, he will launch a new party in order to compete in the mid-term elections in 2026 the Republican elected officials who campaigned for the reduction of public expenditure for the end of the vote for the text of law.
“Vox Populi Vox Dei 80 % voted for a new party,” he said after launching a survey on this idea on X.
