The animal was found tied to a fence near Bruce B Downs Boulevard in the Tampa area. The animal was partially submerged in water when it was found by the police officer.
“It’s going to be okay, my friend,” the officer said as he approached the dog. The latter showed obvious signs of aggression.
“I don’t blame you,” the police officer pleaded when he tried to calm the animal. “It’s better, my friend, it’s better.”
The video, which was shared by the Florida Highway Patrol on the social network X, moved Internet users in the United States who denounced a “cruel act” while evacuations are underway in Florida.
“DON’T DO THIS to your pets, please,” the police department wrote.
Many Internet users have called for intervention from the authorities to find the owners of the animal.
“I hope you will find its (former) owners to stop them,” commented a user shocked by the images.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also responded to the video by thanking the police department for their intervention while calling the action “cruel.”
“It’s cruel to abandon a dog by tying it to a fence in the middle of a storm,” he lamented. “Florida will punish those responsible for animal abuse.”
Remember that Florida is preparing for the passage of the hurricane Miltondescribed as the “storm of the century” by many experts, ten days after the destruction caused by the hurricane Helene.
