Far be it from me to be ageist, but if I were an American woman my age, 27, I would be really discouraged right now.

Donald Trump is 78 years old. If he were elected President of the United States in the next election, he would turn 80 in the first half of his term.

Joe Biden is 81 years old. He has been governing the United States for over a year now as an octogenarian.

It must be hard to believe in the future when the person who governs our country has less of a future than the majority of the population.

How about a little respite?

I can’t help but think that men like Donald Trump and even Joe Biden should have given way to younger people in this race for the presidency of the United States.

I wonder if these men are really there in the interest of the population, because I can’t help but perceive that a desire for personal recognition greatly motivates them.

I find them cheeky not to leave their place to the next generation, as others surely left their place for them, decades and decades ago when they were starting out in life.

Aren’t all the dollars they have in the bank enough to just enjoy the healthy years they have left?

What do they have to prove?

Canada, not really better

The situation in the United States reminds me that here too we have major gaps in the representation of the population in politics.

As you probably know, older white men are more than present in this field. It can be difficult for a young woman like me, for example, to feel challenged by these politicians.

I think the United States is currently proof that diversity in politics is important.
