On Sunday evening, the owner of X took to his social network with an incendiary message that was quickly decried by many Internet users, reports CNN.
Elon Musk wondered why Joe Biden, the current president, and Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate in the next election, have never been targeted by assassination attempts while Donald Trump has obviously been the victim twice.
“And no one is trying to assassinate Biden/Kamala,” the message read, along with a pensive emoji.
Several X users immediately demanded that the billionaire remove the post, to no avail. In response to one such request, Musk retorted: “My point here is that no one has even tried and no one is going to try.”
Elon Musk was finally convinced by a user’s response pointing out that his “real intention” could be easily misinterpreted.
“Okay. I don’t want to do what they did, even as a joke,” Musk responded, repeatedly saying it was a joke.

According to CNN, it is difficult to say whether Elon Musk has violated the rules of use of his own platform.
The billionaire has insisted ever since that his message was not an incitement to violence against the two Democratic politicians.
The Tesla founder had publicly endorsed Donald Trump in the US presidential election following a failed assassination attempt last July.
