The Nigerian Parliament approved the state’s general budget project for the year 2025, and amounted to 36.6 billion dollars.

The government approved the allocation of $ 200 million to fill the expected deficit in the health sector after freezing the aid provided by the United States.

US President Donald Trump has ordered – after he took over the presidency on January 20 – he froze the aid offered by the USAID (USAID) for 90 days, and stopping its activity at home and abroad.

The Nigerian authorities formed a multi -sectarian ministerial committee to develop a strategy that enables to overcome the expected shortage of tuberculosis, immune and malaria.

The committee ordered the allocation of $ 3.2 million to buy 150,000 doses of HIV in the next four months.

Nigeria is one of the countries that benefit from the financial grants provided by the United States, as it helped it with $ 1.02 billion in 2023.

The Nigerian parliament approved the new budget with an amount that exceeds what the president and the government provided, as laws allow the legislative authority to make automatic changes in the state’s general budget project.

The government said that the priorities of spending in the 2025 budget will include enhancing security and investment in the salute structure, and focusing on areas that reduce the impact of living costs.

Nigeria, the largest country in Africa in terms of population with a population of more than 200 million people, was among the top ten countries benefiting from the US International Development Agency aid in 2023.
The head of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Adiola Omelikan, said during the Parliament budget session on Thursday that the country may suffer from “negative effects” due to the reduction of American aid, especially the influence of diseases efforts.

The United States invested more than $ 600 million in health aid in Nigeria in 2023 alone, according to the United States embassy in Nigeria, and most of that was to support the efforts made to prevent malaria, eliminate AIDS and provide vaccines.

The freezing of financing from the United States can also affect the country on other fronts, including humanitarian aid in the northeast of the country, where the government has faced a rebellion since 2009.

Trump, upon assuming power, froze the aid provided by the American Agency for International Development for three months (French)

The most important repercussions of the American decision on African countries:

Functions on the health sector

Many African countries will be affected by the decision to freeze American aid through a decline in their ability to confront epidemics, and you will find a deficit in covering anti -disease programs that were funded by American initiatives through the US President’s Emergency President’s relief plan from AIDS, as the United States has invested more than 110 billion dollars in The global response to HIV/ AIDS, rescuing the lives of more than 25 million, and preventing millions of injuries to the virus.

Functions on humanitarian crises

Stopping American humanitarian aid related to the support of refugees and displaced persons will cause exacerbation of displacement, especially in countries with conflict, such as democratic Congo, or climate disasters, such as Somalia and South Sudan.

Functions on economic development

The repercussions of the decision will be to influence economic development through the slowdown of infrastructure projects, which leads to bad economic consequences. Senegalese Prime Minister Othman Sonka revealed that US President Trump has suspended US financing related to official development assistance on the electricity program for Senegal for a period Three years that were likely to benefit from 316 billion sword francs.

Functions on regional security

This decision will weaken the anti -terrorist programs in the US coast supported by the United States by training forces or providing equipment.
