Two police officers were killed in a shooting Sunday evening in Syracuse, in upstate New York.
The shooting broke out shortly around 8:45 p.m. in a usually quiet residential area in the suburbs of Salina, according to what the “New York Post” reported, citing local media syracuse.com.
While the police went to a residence on Darien Drive for a report of a stolen vehicle, they were greeted by gunfire causing at least three victims, according to the American media.
Among the victims were a Syracuse police officer and a deputy from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed authorities who tried to reassure neighborhood residents.
Witnesses said they heard at least 20 shots fired, as a vehicle was chased by police patrols, before ambulances and the fire department arrived on the scene.
Onondaga Sheriff Toby Shelley said in a news conference around 11 p.m. that a suspect has been arrested and there is no danger to the community after a police deployment, according to the “NY Post” .
