A 38-year-old man was killed, while another 31-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman were seriously injured in a stabbing attack early Sunday evening in New York.
The armed attack occurred shortly before 6 p.m. in a hot area of Manhattan, police said, according to the New York Post.
The three victims were transported to a hospital where the 38-year-old man died from his injuries, while the 50-year-old remained in critical condition.
Police seized a sharp object at the scene before arresting a suspect aged in his 30s, but it is not known if charges have been filed against him.
Following the armed attack, a city councilor issued a statement calling for increased police presence in the area where the situation “is out of control.”
“The situation in the 14e “The street is out of control… It is unacceptable that the conditions on the street remain unchanged,” Keith Powers said in a statement.
