Eleven people, including children, were injured when a house collapsed after a gas exposure Tuesday in Syracuse, New York.

Around fifty firefighters were dispatched to rescue victims trapped under the rubble of the two-story residential building which completely collapsed shortly after 4 p.m. on Carbon Street.

At the scene, there was a strong smell of fuel, while a car was under the rubble, Syracuse Fire Chief Michael Monds told the New York Post.

Two of the victims were in critical condition in a hospital center, while the driver of the vehicle had to be extricated, according to the authorities who report 13 people living in the collapsed building.

The other injured transported to hospital were treated for injuries, some of which were caused by burns, which did not endanger their lives, according to the fire chief quoted by the American media.
