Several pedicab drivers have assaulted their customers in Manhattan, according to the New York PostSunday.

Bike taxi drivers committed 1,493 violations from 1er January to June 30, 2024, according to statistics compiled by the New York City Police Department. That’s a 51.5 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

A doorman at the Sheraton Hotel in the 7e Avenue in New York is far from appreciative of the work of pedicab drivers.

“They’re like piranhas that just want to get paid,” Ralph Mendez said. “They prey on tourists, guests and children.”

A pedicab driver allegedly harassed two women to take them home for free. One of the victims said that the driver took advantage of an isolated location to sexually assault her. She filed a complaint. The two women managed to escape.

“It was really convenient for him to be outside a bar at 3:30 in the morning offering to drive girls home who had been drinking,” the victim said.

The Big Apple daily has also listed several assaults committed by pedicab drivers against customers. A spokesperson for the New York City Police Department said they had received complaints near the Empire State Building.

“As a result, we have focused our efforts on certain specific areas,” the spokesperson said.
