“To the parents and families of those affected by the tragic events at Apalachee High School, I want to say that I am sorry from the bottom of my heart,” said Marcee Gray, mother of 14-year-old Colt Gray, who is in custody awaiting trial for the murders of four people.
The mother also said in the document, a copy of which was obtained by CNN, that if she could take the place of the victims of the shooting, she would do so “without hesitation.”
“My son Colt is not a monster,” she wrote. “He is my oldest baby. He is calm, caring, funny and extremely intelligent. Please pray for him and our family as I pray for all of you every moment of every day.”
The letter comes a week after the shooting that left four people dead, including two teachers and two students.
Nine people were also injured in the incident.
Mrs Gray received a text message from her son that read “sorry mum” on the day of the tragedy.
Worried, she contacted the school following her reception, according to information from CNN.
