A woman will spend a maximum of 10 years in a state mental institution after being found guilty of pushing a 3-year-old girl onto train tracks.
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office in Oregon announced on Wednesday, January 31, that Brianna Workman, 33, had been found guilty of attempted first-degree assault, except for her psychiatric disorder, third-degree assault, interference with public transportation, disturbing the peace and recklessly endangering others.
On December 28, 2022, Mme Workman was near a mother and child on the MAX platform at the Gateway Transit Center in Northeast Portland.
Mme Workman then pushed the 3-year-old girl “without provocation” onto the tracks of the MAX line.
The little girl had fallen head first against the metal rail and rocks. However, passers-by “quickly saved” her.
The prosecutor’s office said the girl suffered a “severe headache” and a red mark on her forehead after the incident.
A Multnomah County judge ordered Workman placed under the supervision of the Psychiatric Security Review Board and held at Oregon State Hospital for up to 10 years.
