A news bulletin on a US television station, recorded in Glendale, California, was interrupted Thursday morning by a 4.7-magnitude earthquake.

The earthquake struck around 7:28 a.m. at a depth of about 6 miles (10 kilometers) in the Malibu area. Authorities had estimated its strength at 5.1, before revising it to 4.7.

“Oh, an earthquake!” ABC7 anchor Marc Cota-Robles said as the studio shook with ground tremors.

A producer was able to confirm that it was an earthquake by checking an alert sent to her phone.

The news anchor described the scene by saying that “the camera and the studio lights started vibrating.”

“I thought we were going to have to hide under desks,” he said, visibly shaken.

No injuries or damage were reported.

California is having a particularly active earthquake season. Since the beginning of the year, authorities have recorded 14 of magnitude 4 and below, while the norm is 8 during the same period, according to an expert quoted by CNN.
