A 20-year-old suspect wanted for murder since early May was arrested Monday after falling from an attic where he was hiding during a search of a Memphis, Tennessee, home.
Deario Wilkerson was wanted on murder charges in a shooting that left one person dead in early April, according to a statement from U.S. Marshals, the Washington Post reported Wednesday. New York Post.
Law enforcement officers tracking the alleged killer surrounded the residence, where the suspect took refuge in the attic, which gave way during the search, but the fugitive was not injured in his fall.
The arrest of the suspect thus puts an end to the manhunt that began more than three months ago, when a Tennessee court issued an arrest warrant against Wilkerson, the American newspaper said.
In the April 2 shooting, Troy Cunningham was fatally shot, before two suspects were arrested and charged, according to the district attorney, but Wilkerson remained at large.
In custody since Monday, he is now facing multiple charges related to Cunningham’s murder, vehicle theft, escape, tampering with evidence and other offenses.
