A New York mother is accused of driving the wrong way on a highway and causing a pileup that killed her 9-year-old son, even though she didn’t have a license.
Kerri Bedrick was intoxicated by drugs at the time of the incident, according to ABC News. She is believed to be the cause of four crashes that occurred Thursday morning in Suffolk County, Long Island.
Her son, Eli Henrys, was riding in the back seat of his mother’s SUV when he was killed.
“To give you an idea of the impact, the engine of the vehicle traveling the wrong way was thrown into the woods some distance from the point of collision,” New York State Police Chief Stephen Udice said at a news conference.
Kerri Bedrick has been charged with several drug-related offences, including criminal possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, and drug-impaired driving, endangering the welfare of a child and operating a vehicle without a licence.
The woman pleaded not guilty and will return to court on August 27.
