Morocco announced yesterday, Tuesday, that the number of foreign tourists who visited the Kingdom increased by 15% during the first 5 months of 2024.
The Moroccan Ministry of Tourism said in a statement that the number of foreign tourists to the country reached 5.9 million from the beginning of this year until the end of last May.
Tourism Minister Fatima Zahraa Ammor said in the same statement, “Receiving an additional 772,000 tourists during the first five months of this year (compared to the same period in 2023) constitutes an exceptional achievement for the sector.”
The Minister expressed Morocco’s aspiration to achieve more positive results in the tourism sector, given the plans adopted at the level of promotion, air transport, and tourist accommodation institutions.
Tourism is the country’s second source of foreign exchange during 2023 after remittances from Moroccan expatriates abroad.
The tourism sector in Morocco continues to develop, as the sector’s revenues exceeded $10 billion for the first time in 2023 after receiving 14.5 million tourists.
The Kingdom is betting on attracting 17.5 million tourists by 2026, especially as it is about to organize major sporting events and international conferences.
The most notable of these events is its hosting of the African Football Cup in 2025 and the FIFA World Cup in 2030, with Spain and Portugal.
