During the past year, Morocco received 17.4 million tourists, revenue in hard currency reached an unprecedented level of 112 billion dirhams (11.2 billion dollars) in 2024, which reflects a noticeable increase of 43% compared to the year 2019, and an increase of 7% compared to 2023.
This dynamic emerged last December, when the revenues amounted to approximately 8 billion dirhams (800 million dollars), an increase of 11% compared to the same period in 2023.
In this regard, I stated Minister of Tourism, Traditional Industry, Social and Solidarity Economy Fatima Al -Zahra Amor “This rise reflects the extent of Moroccan tourism’s ability to adapt to the new global trends and value its natural, cultural and human qualifications. Today, Morocco focuses on providing a varied and rich offer and various experiences that meet the various requirements of tourists, as this is reflected in the numbers.”
In addition to its important economic impact, these exceptional results highlight the great impact of the tourism sector in creating job opportunities and local development.
For his part, the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdel Samad Qayyouh, stated that during the year 2024, Morocco’s airports received about 32 million passengers between tourists and expatriates and travelers of the internal lines.
Qayyouh said, in his answer to an oral question during the oral question session in the House of Representatives, that the Kingdom’s airports are expected to receive, by 2030, about 60 million passengers, and 90 million passengers on the horizon of 2035.
He explained that the internal air transport on which the Ministry of Transport and Logistics watch over mainly to link the various regions of the Kingdom, and to encourage transportation between airports and cities, noting that a system that relies on support has been developed to provide preferential price for passengers.
The Ministry of Tourism expects that Morocco will receive 26 million tourists by 2030 when it hosts the World Cup.
Tourism is the second source of foreign criticism in Morocco during 2023, at a value of $ 10 billion, after the transfers of Moroccan expatriates abroad of $ 11.6 billion in that year.
