Moroccan state writer in charge of foreign trade Omar Hajira, and the Egyptian Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Hassan Al -Khatib, discussed ways to enhance trade exchanges between the two countries.
This came in press statements carried by the official Morocco agency, after a meeting with Moroccan state clerk in charge of foreign trade and the Egyptian Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade in the Moroccan capital Rabat, Thursday evening.
The two parties discussed encouraging the dynamism of economic and commercial partnerships between them, according to the same source.
Hajira stressed that “during the meeting, the numbers of trade exchanges and measures to be taken for the purpose of reducing the trade deficit registered by Morocco were reviewed.”
He noted “the strong will of the Egyptian side to organize a mission for the benefit of Moroccan exporters to Egypt, with the aim of concluding partnerships to enhance exports, led by the auto sector, which witnessed a decline during the recent period.”
He recorded that “within the framework of these trade exchanges, priority will be given to other products in order to enhance Moroccan exports to Egypt.”
For his part, Al -Khatib highlighted that “this meeting discussed trade exchanges, and ways to continue to enhance them to achieve a balance in the trade balance between the two countries.”
He added that “the procedures and practical measures that will be sent in this field have been studied, and whose course will be followed by the two sides.”
The Egyptian minister stressed that “Moroccan products are not prohibited, and that the Egyptian market remains open to Moroccan exports.”
Morocco seeks to diversify its commercial partners, especially with African countries, given that its exchanges with the European Union constitute more than 60% of its total commercial exchanges, compared to 7.6% with African countries, according to official statistics issued in the year 2023.
