The Montreal Canadiens have decided to charge fans who wish to receive a visit from the mascot “Youppi” at their seats. This decision caused an outcry on social networks. For its part, the NHL franchise assured that all profits would be donated to its children’s foundation.
The big “Fur Madness” operation did not receive the expected reception. While the Montreal Canadiens (NHL) franchise has now decided to offer its fans a special moment with Youppi, their mascot, many indignant reactions have emerged on social networks.
When fans of the ice hockey franchise wish to purchase their place on the website, an option entitled “Folie Fourrure Youppi” is now available. The promise: book a personalized tour of the “incomparable Youppi” at its headquarters, with a gift bag worth $75 Canadian, confetti and a sign with his name as a bonus. The price? $195 Canadian (132 euros).
The anger of fans of the franchise
On their website, the Montreal Canadiens specify that “all profits support the Canadiens Children’s Foundation.” Despite this mention, the initiative caused an outcry among a large number of fans. “You look like a gang of predators with this kind of promotion,” complains an Internet user on social network. In the publication announcing the operation, the franchise did not specify the charitable aspect of the project.
Before this innovation, the Montreal Canadiens already offered the possibility of “treating” Youppi for private events. To reserve Youppi, former face of the Montreal Expos (baseball) and first mascot to have changed major American league, all you need to do is pay the modest sum of $2,000 Canadian (1,360 euros) if you are not a partner of the franchise (and this time without donating the profits to a foundation). What a rock star, this Youppi.
