Tampa Bay Rays player Wander Franco was arrested Monday in the Dominican Republic for alleged relationships with minors.
Tampa Bay Rays player Wander Franco (22) was arrested Monday in the Dominican Republic and was questioned by authorities as part of an investigation into alleged relationships with minors, reports ESPN. Accompanied by two lawyers, he met with Puerto Plata city prosecutors and was placed under arrest by authorities.
Wander Franco did not show up for a meeting with the Santo Domingo Specialized Prosecutor for Children and Adolescents on Thursday, so that is why he was arrested. Monday’s interview lasted nearly three hours according to the Associated Press.
MLB all-star in 2023
Franco must be presented to a judge within 48 hours, according to Dominican law. No criminal charges have been filed against the baseball player in connection with the allegations of inappropriate relations with minors. The one who participated in the 2023 All-star game was placed on administrative leave for an indefinite period by MLB.
His Rays franchise supports the league’s decision and says it will help in the investigation into the player who joined Tampa Bay in 2021. Married for two years, Wander Franco is the father of two children.
