(Washington) An American federal immigration police (ICE) agent shot a Venezuelan man in the leg on Wednesday in Minneapolis, municipal authorities said, urging the population to “remain calm”, a week after a woman from the same city, Renee Good, was shot dead there.

“We understand there is anger,” city officials wrote on the social network X, adding that “the City of Minneapolis is once again demanding that ICE immediately leave the city and state.”
Department of Homeland Security officials confirmed the shooting, saying “an illegal alien from Venezuela” resisted arrest after a traffic stop.
“While the suspect and the law enforcement officer were fighting on the ground, two individuals came out of a nearby apartment and also attacked the law enforcement officer with a snow shovel and a broom handle,” the department said.
The police officer then “fired a defensive shot to protect his life”, hitting the man in the leg, according to the institution.
Elected officials in Minneapolis and the state of Minnesota denounced the actions of Department of Homeland Security agents, including those from ICE.
