American wildlife officials succeeded, after weeks of efforts, in putting an end to the destructive run of Turkules, an unstoppable turkey that was terrorizing the small community of West Orange, New Jersey.
For months, the black turkey had taken up residence on the grounds of a long-term hospital center and a rehabilitation center. However, its hot temperament has made it famous, for the wrong reasons, among many pedestrians, joggers, cyclists and even motorists who have had trouble with the bird.
“If it weren’t for the large number of complaints the municipality received about Turkules’ aggressive behavior…the elected officials would have left him alone for as long as she wanted,” he said. commented the City on Wednesday.
Turkey with nine lives
Now, don’t stop Turkules whoever wants. The city explained that the turkey was shot with a tranquilizer dart by a wildlife officer weeks ago, to no effect. The animal continued its little life, with the stinger remaining stuck in its chest.
At another point, Turkules was hit by a car, but again, the bird miraculously escaped without the slightest scratch.
The adventures of the black turkey have given it the status of unofficial mascot of the City, even a legend for its inhabitants, while national media such as the “New York Times” have devoted reports to it.
Turkules was finally caught and brought before the municipal justice system, which was lenient, allowing the turkey to escape the fate that awaits approximately 46 million of its fellows for Thanksgiving this weekend.
“Once she was captured, an official pardon was issued by Mayor (Susan) McCartney and Turkules was relocated to an undisclosed site,” the City laughed, referring to a “rumor” according to which her heroine would now live comfortably in Cranbury, New Jersey.
