The body of a 32-year-old nurse, who had just returned from her honeymoon when she allegedly disappeared, was found dead Friday in Oregon, while her neighbor was reportedly handcuffed.
“I am in so much pain right now for you, my daughter Melissa Jubane. As promised by the Beaverton police authorities, justice will be served soon,” Valentin Jubane, the victim’s father, wrote on Facebook Sunday, according to the New York Post.
Last Wednesday, Melissa Jubane’s co-workers notified police after the nurse failed to show up for her morning shift at St. Vincent Hospital in southwest Portland.
The 30-year-old was living alone in her apartment at the time, but was in the process of looking for a job in Washington state to join her new husband, Bryan Llantero, and the rest of her family after moving to Oregon for work.
The couple, who met in Hawaii more than 10 years ago, had just tied the knot on the island of Honolulu on August 24. While waiting to move in together, they regularly flew to see each other, according to the American media.
Except that only a few days after celebrating his union, the new husband reportedly had no further news from his wife, who reportedly spoke to him for the last time last Wednesday morning.
Unfortunately, after a few days of searching, his body was reportedly found lifeless, while the police announced the arrest of one of his neighbors, Bryce Johnathan Schubert, 27, for second-degree murder.
It is unclear whether the victim and suspect knew each other or the condition in which she was found.
“This is an active investigation. While we recognize the significant interest and concerns of the community, we must withhold further details to preserve the integrity of the investigation,” the Beaverton Police Department said, according to NBC News.
On social media, the nurse’s grieving relatives described their pain, paying tribute to “the sweetest soul in the world,” according to one of her cousins.
“The government must protect (people like Melissa) (…) Unfortunately, someone took advantage of her and she was killed by someone very evil. I ask the government to adopt laws that protect good citizens,” demanded a second cousin, according to the “Post”.
