A 30-year-old man was sentenced to death Tuesday in the 2019 murders of two women in Florida, according to the New York Post.
“The evidence shows that the murders were heinous, atrocious and cruel. The second murder was calculated and premeditated,” Florida Judge Nicholas Thompson said of Wade Wilson.
That same evening in October 2019, the 30-year-old first strangled to death a 35-year-old woman, Kristine Melton, with whom he had just had sex, while he was intoxicated by drugs. He then fled by stealing his first victim’s car.
Later that night, after an argument with his girlfriend who refused to follow him, Wade Wilson got back on the road. He asked a 43-year-old woman, Diane Ruiz, for directions to Cape Coral. She ended up in his vehicle and he strangled her to death.
“Pleasure of killing”
The killer confessed that he later ran her over with his vehicle “until she looked like spaghetti.”
Deputy prosecutor Andreas Gardiner said the second victim was killed because of “his pleasure in killing.”
Before the sentencing, the killer’s father, Steve Wilson, testified for his son, suggesting that he still loved him despite everything. He noted his son’s mental problems.
According to a video by journalist Erin Keller of “Newsweek” on the social network X, some relatives of the victims applauded when they learned of the death sentence, while others mocked the murderer. Wade Wilson had been found guilty last June after a jury trial.
