Hiding in her suburban San Diego home, a mother managed to run a nationwide scam, hiring a dozen women to steal makeup with the goal of reselling it.
Michelle Mack, 53, has amassed a small fortune in cosmetics stolen from Ulta Beauty and Sephora stores across the United States. According to information collected by CNBC, the mother paid the travel expenses of her accomplices who stole products in California, Washington State, Utah, Oregon, Colorado, Arizona, Illinois, Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Ohio.
The stolen products were then resold on Amazon. Despite being the mastermind behind the scheme, police do not believe Michelle Mack stole the goods. The latter pulled the strings and led the group called “California Girls,” according to investigators on file. She reportedly made millions of dollars reselling the stolen products for a fraction of the price before her arrest last December.
For the moment, authorities estimate the value of the stolen merchandise at $8 million, but this amount could increase, various American media reported.
