A North Carolina man reportedly struck lucky on Thursday after winning nearly half a million US dollars in the lottery, just a day after buying a home.
“I (signed the deed for) a house on Wednesday. They made a joke about reduced payments if I won the lottery,” Benny Murphy said in a statement Monday from the North Carolina Education Lottery, reported by The Mirror US.
Last week, the Alamance County, North Carolina, man had just closed on the purchase of a new home in Mebane and was awaiting the results of the next drawing of the Cash 5 lottery game, for which he had purchased a $1 ticket.
It was then that he allegedly won the jackpot of US$439,527 the next day, which is equivalent to almost Canadian$600,000.
After federal and state taxes, the man reportedly took home $314,262 U.S. — more than $425,000 Canadian — on Monday, the statement said.
While he plans to use the money to pay for the house, he will also use it to treat himself to a fishing trip, in addition to putting some of the winnings aside to put into his savings.
