A hiker who got his legs stuck under a large rock in rugged terrain in California’s Inyo Mountains was rescued seven hours later, after a delicate, resource-limited operation.

“The search and rescue (SAR) team arrived at the hiker well after dark, finding him in great pain with his left leg trapped under a large rock on a steep hill. Team members estimated the rock weighed between 6,000 and 10,000 pounds,” the Inyo County Volunteer Association “Search & Rescue” reported on Facebook on Friday.

Last Tuesday, the association was called in the afternoon to rescue the man, who had remained with his legs stuck in excruciating pain on a rugged slope in the Inyo Mountains in California.

The hiker reportedly spent more than seven hours in his painful posture before being freed after midnight.

It was with the help of a system of ropes, pulleys and levers that the team managed to move the rock sufficiently to free the hiker and stabilize his injuries, the non-profit organization said in its publication.

“Due to the severity of the hiker’s injuries and the difficulty of the terrain, it was decided to extract him despite the darkness using a helicopter from the American naval air station at Lemoore,” he said. she added, in writing.

To date, there has been no update on his state of health, Global News reported on Monday.
