Two family members were killed near a Kentucky courthouse Monday before attending a hearing for an emergency protection order.

A third person was shot, according to ABC News. The shooting happened in the courthouse parking lot shortly before 9 a.m. The Elizabethtown Police Department said the suspect was in a relationship with one of the victims.
The 46-year-old Christopher Elder allegedly shot himself after a confrontation with police. He was taken to hospital and is said to be in critical condition.
Erica Riley, 37, and her 71-year-old mother, Janet Rylee, lost their lives. A third person close to the family is in stable condition in hospital.
Two children of one of the victims witnessed the tragedy.
The investigation is continuing.
